Position Summary:

Macfadden is seeking a Database Specialist to support USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI). In this position, you will have the opportunity to build and manage a data warehouse while working with web developers on the IT team. This position requires a high degree of skill in managing large and disparate data sets to achieve desired business outcomes.

Essential Functions:

  • Design or modify and implement information technology systems based on common online office environments, databases and/or project planning
  • Good database skills with a moderate understanding of SQL.
  • Fundamental understanding of database administration and MySQL(MariaDB)
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing knowledge management and information technology systems
  • Develop mechanisms to integrate information management systems with different technical and security requirements
  • Design, implement and manage e-learning materials and web-based communities of practice
  • Coordinate with IT team members to develop information management systems that meet OTI’s needs and increase overall efficiencies
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools (i.e. YellowFin) including the ability to create views and manage data
  • Manage current and archived data
  • Gather requirements for current and future data storage and retrieval across multiple custom systems
  • Generate Reports/Views as needed
  • Conduct analysis and improve efficiency of databases
  • Establish and maintain user roles and access levels in current systems
  • Perform Tier 2 helpdesk functions for OTI’s flagship system
  • Develop data model, dictionary, schema, and maintain data integrity of all OTI systems

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar technical field, and one year of experience in database maintenance and database administration

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1-4 years of work experience; or
  • Less than BS/BA with 1-5 years of relevant experience
  • MS/MA/MB with 1-3 years of relevant experience

Skills: Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work well with others, meet deadlines, and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment. Requires strong attention to detail.

U.S. Citizenship is required; selected candidate must be able to qualify for a government sponsored security clearance.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
