Macfadden, now part of PAE, is seeking a part-time Graphic Design Intern to support USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI) in Washington, DC. As part of the Program, Learning and Innovation division, the Graphic Design intern will support staff throughout the office, including helping teams tell their stories in a visual and easy-to-digest way, and creating products in support of program management and analysis. The Graphic Design intern will collaborate closely with the OTI Outreach Team and its Graphic Designers, and other USAID offices. The Graphic Design Intern’s work is critical to communicate and articulate the value of USAID/OTI’s work to internal and external audiences in the U.S. and overseas, the general public, U.S. Congress, and other partners through illustrative and informative graphics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Graphic Design Intern is responsible for advancing Design and Informational Products by assisting OTI’s graphic designers, organizing tasks, and identifying opportunities for engaging colleagues.
- Assist OTI’s graphic designers with production of internal and external materials
- Design products such as infographics, one-pagers, illustrations, publications, presentations, and marketing materials that articulate the value of USAID/OTI’s work to internal and external audiences in the U.S. and overseas.
- Analyze problems and formulate strategic design solutions in a timely manner to meet tight deadlines with changing and sometimes competing priorities.
- Provide clients with design options and guidance.
- Create interactive and animated graphics.
- Translate data into infographics.
- Export files for on screen and print purposes, coordinating with outside print vendors when needed.
- Ensure consistent USAID branding identity across multiple platforms and media.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Education/Experience:
- Working use of the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (Word and PPT)
- Must be in the process of, or have recently earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or similar discipline.
- 1 - 2 years proven experience in the graphic design field.
- Portfolio samples will be requested and reviewed as part of the application process
Required Skills:
- Strong design sense and understanding of design elements, such as color, typography, and layout
- Ability to work closely with a team to develop and provide effective fit-for-purpose visual solutions, which involves being able to synthesize complex and text-heavy requests
- Strong prioritization skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with photo editing
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively on a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly creative and innovative artistic talent
- Strong conceptual-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work and design on Mac, and familiarity working on Windows/PCs
Preferred Skills:
- User Experience (UX) design
- Video (shooting and editing) (Premiere/After Effects)
- Social media experience
- International experience and foreign language skills.
- Copy editing

U.S. Citizenship is required; selected candidate must be able to qualify for a government sponsored clearance.
