Position Summary:

The Communications Analyst assists the Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) of the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA) of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). S/he primarily assists ASHA with communications information but also provides communications support to DCHA and USAID.

ASHA provides assistance to schools, libraries, and medical centers outside the U.S. that serve as study and demonstration centers for American ideas and practices. ASHA’s awards help these institutions train future leaders in a wide variety of disciplines, support local and regional infrastructure to foster development, and cultivate positive relationships among citizens of the U.S. and other nations.

Key External Interfaces: DCHA Bureau, ASHA partners, Friends of ASHA

Essential Functions:

The Communications Analyst provides communication support to include:

• Providing communications information to ASHA, DCHA, and USAID in a timely manner;
• Documenting and disseminating program activities and accomplishments;
• Identifying outreach opportunities and audiences;
• Coordinating the logistics and communication aspects of the Annual Conferences and workshops;
• Designing communications strategies, policies, and guiding documents and training ASHA staff and partners in how to implement these practices.
• Prepare all ASHA official communications, briefing materials, and social media content.
• Maintain the ASHA internal and external websites.
• Represent ASHA communications with DCHA Bureau.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Public Relations or related field

Experience:

• At least two years of relevant communications experience.
• Experience with USAID preferred, or communicating for USG or other institution

Skills:

A successful candidate must have extremely strong writing and editing skills, strong verbal communication skills, a positive attitude, and a good work ethic. S/he must be reliable, must work well on a team, and must be able to work well under time constraints. Computer proficiency is required and must include applied knowledge of standard business applications. Knowledge of MS Office products required. Knowledge of graphic software such as Adobe Creative Suite or ARC GIS desired.

U.S. Citizenship is required; selected candidate must be able to qualify for a government sponsored security clearance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
